Human beings build a world to know and promote themselves. In this world, it creates a culture and an identity for itself. It makes its identity concrete with culture. Identity, on the other hand, is accepted as the whole of the signs, qualities and characteristics that are unique to human beings as a social being, and the conditions that enable someone to be a certain person. Every society has a culture and every individual has an identity that shows the society to which he belongs. In general, culture is a determining factor in the formation of identity. There are many elements in culture, one of which is folklore. Folklore plays an extremely important role in the formation of the national identity of individuals. In addition to folk narratives such as epics, fairy tales, folk tales, legends and anecdotes, anonymous poetry and minstrel poetry have separate effects on the construction of the national identity of individuals. Therefore, folklore products have a significant contribution to the formation and settlement of the national identity of the individual and society.

In this study, the role and function of folklore products in the construction of national identity has been tried to be revealed based on genres.
