This article is devoted to the problem of the frequent use of terms and words as synonyms, but their differences in content. The purpose of the article is to solve this problem, to study the role of these concepts in linguistics and the scientific approaches given to them, to determine their accuracy and to identify their distinctive features through practical analysis. It is also proposed to highlight the use of terms in scientific and technical fields as units expressing a clear and stable meaning, the differences in content of terms and expressions, and the connection of words with universal language units
