Аннотация

The article discusses a little-studied type of causative syntaxemes expressed by the preposition ‘under’ in the English language. The author notes that despite the widespread use of such constructions in modern English speech, they still remain unnoticed by local and foreign lexicographic and grammatical sources. The analysis is based on a corpus of real examples, in which syntaxemes take a position in sentences with the combination of a verb, adjective, or noun. It has been shown, through variable experience, that these constructs can be synonymous with typical causal prepositions without losing their meaning (e.g., because of, due to, owing to). The author concludes that the underlying prepositional combinations should be considered as independent causative syntaxemes with characteristic syntactic and semantic properties that distinguish them from other variants.
