Abstract

The article examines the linguo-cultural (linguostranovedchesky) aspect of training future translators in the context of Russian-Uzbek bilingualism. It analyzes the significance of cultural and linguistic knowledge in shaping the translator’s professional competence and explores the peculiarities of nationally determined meanings and realia in translation. Special attention is given to the interrelation between language and culture, to the role of linguo-cultural competence in achieving adequate meaning transfer, and to methodological principles of translator training based on an intercultural approach. Comparative examples from Russian and Uzbek cultural systems are provided to illustrate the necessity of cultural adaptation in translation.
