This article analyzes the role of the translator in the process of translating proverbs and the correct interpretation of national culture. Proverbs constitute an important layer of national culture as a unique expression of the worldview, values, traditions and national thinking of the people. Therefore, when translating them from another language, it is necessary to take into account not only linguistic, but also cultural, contextual and pragmatic factors.
The article analyzes the linguocultural approaches of translators using the example of the translation of proverbs in English and Uzbek and studies the problem of correctly expressing the cultural semantics, metaphorical images, folk thinking and cultural connotations hidden in proverbs. The study highlights the role of translation strategies such as equivalence, adequacy, compensation, adaptation and transformation in the translation of proverbs.
