Аннотация

This article provides a historical and scholarly analysis of the stages in the development of Uzbek translation from the early twentieth century to the period of independence. The study examines the formation of the modern Uzbek school of translation initiated by the Jadid movement, as well as the institutionalization of translation practice, translation theory, and translation studies during the Soviet era. The article offers a critical assessment of the contributions made by prominent translators active between the 1940s and the 1980s, who introduced masterpieces of world literature into the Uzbek language, and analyzes their aesthetic principles and translation strategies. In addition, the theoretical and practical problems of podstrochnik-based translation widely used in the Soviet period are discussed, with particular reference to Shakespeare translations produced through an intermediary
