THE PROBLEM OF THE "UNSPEAKABLE" IN THE DIARIES OF THE 1950S AND L. N. TOLSTOY'S "HISTORY OF YESTERDAY"

Abstract

The article investigates the diaries of 50-s and an unfinished literary sketch of Tolstoy's "The Story of Yesterday" which became a kind of creative laboratory for future epic works of the writer. The central problem is the verbalization of the inner world of a man. From the early creative experiences the writer tried to capture and embody the development of inner life, trying not only to guess the views and involuntary gestures, but also to reveal their secret impulses.
