Already in L. N. Tolstoy's early prose, the description of the house is not just a kind of background of events, but also an expression of a special poetic meaning. In particular, in the autobiographical trilogy "portrait" of the house is a kind of key to understanding the spiritual and moral reality of the characters. In the autobiographical trilogy, the image of the house is the dominant plot-forming component of the text and acts in a sense-generating role. The character of the main character is revealed through the "portrait" of the Irtenev house, presented in the text in a complex semantic combination of descriptions of "internal" and "external" in the structure of a number of houses (the Valakhins, Kornakovs, Ivins and Nekhludovs).
