Abstract

The Fuzuli district of Karabakh is one of the regions of Azerbaijan rich in cultural and historical heritage. This area stands out not only for its geographical location and natural resources but also for the toponyms that have played an important role in the development of the language. The water bodies of the Fuzuli district—springs, canals, rivers, and lakes—have contributed to the formation of a wide variety of hydronyms. Hydronyms are linguistic units that reflect not only the geographical conditions of the region but also the lifestyle, culture, and historical memory of the local population. This article analyzes the lexical-semantic features of hydronyms in the Fuzuli district. By examining their origins, semantics, and functional usage, the study reveals the role hydronyms play in language and cultural memory. As a result, it is shown that hydronyms are not only geographical indicators but also bear social, historical, and spiritual value
