This article analyzes one of the most challenging issues in translation theory – the problem of indirect translation – from both traditional and modern perspectives. It examines the linguistic, stylistic, and cultural differences that arise when a work is translated not directly from the original language, but through an intermediary language. In particular, the article discusses Maksud Shaykhzoda’s Uzbek translations of Shakespeare’s works translated from Russian. The advantages and disadvantages of indirect translation are explored in connection with the main approaches in translation theory.
