Abstract

The translation of classical literary sources in the context of world translation studies examines the specificity of archaic lexicon. The article analyzes the cultural, stylistic, and semantic features of archaic lexicon in Uzbek classical literature (Navoi’s “Khamsa”, Babur’s “Baburnama”). Examples of archaism-lexeme (“yazdon” – god) and archaism-sememe (“shahr” – capital of sultanate) illustrate translation challenges. Based on world translation theories (Venuti, Nida), Uzbek archaisms’ transfer to English via “foreignization” and “domestication” methods is compared. Scientific significance lies in reconstructing language evolution and preserving cultural authenticity
