The Gorogly epic cycle is one of the significant examples of folklore that holds
equal value in both Western and Eastern cultural traditions. Since the second half of the 20th
century, the cycle – its plot, narrative development, and character depictions – has been the subject
of scholarly research. In the epic, the role of each character becomes apparent through the
analysis of their relationship with the central hero, Gorogly. Therefore, to reveal the character
traits of Hasan Khan, Gorogly’s adopted son, this study focuses on the analysis of his intercharacter
relationships. In the cycle, Hasan Khan is portrayed as a brave warrior, and at the same
time, the bards (bakhshis) describe his character through father – son relationships depicted in
the epics. In the episodes featuring Hasan Khan, he appears as an adopted son to Gorogly, a
brother to Gulchehra, a son to the fairies Misqol and Ogha Yunus, a brother to Avaz Khan, a
husband to Khondalli, and a father figure to Ravshan.
