This research paper presents an analysis of archaic gerundial suffixes found
in the works of Shah Ismail Khatai, a prominent representative of 16th-century Azerbaijani
literature. The article comparatively examines parallels between gerunds in Khatai's language
with ancient Turkic written monuments and classical Azerbaijani literature. The research has
determined that several ancient gerundial constructions have been preserved in Khatai's works.
Among these, the suffixes -ıban/-iben, -uban/-üben, -ıcak/-icek, -alı/-eli, -gec/-qac, -ı/-i/-u/-ü, -
madın hold a special place. The article also analyzes archaic gerundial suffixes and the phonetic
and semantic transformations these archaic forms have undergone in modern Azerbaijani
language and emphasizes their significance in the history of our language
