Аннотация

This article analyzes the artistic and semantic functions of the colors «white»
and «black» in Uzbek folk tales. The research demonstrates that these colors serve as more than
just visual descriptors; they act as essential components of character portraiture that reveal the
protagonists’ inner worlds and moral qualities. Specifically, the study explores the role of the
color white as a symbol of wisdom, purity, and benevolence, contrasted with the color black as a
representation of evil, danger, and malice in shaping character imagery. Through the analysis of
folk examples, the article concludes with insights into the dualistic significance of these colors
within the poetics of the fairy tale genre.
