The article examines terms denoting types of diseases that were actively used
in the system of medical terminology of the early old turkic language during the Qarakhanid
period. The analysis is conducted in terms of their structure, word formation and semantic
composition based on examples from Mahmud Kashgari’s encyclopedic work “Diwan lughat atturk”.
The study demonstrates the diversity of terms recorded in the turkic language over a period
of approximately 11-12 centuries within this field, showing that majority of them belong to the
native turkic lexical layer. It also reveals that a certain portion of these terms has withstood the
test of time and has survived to the present day, while others have fallen out of use due to various
factors.
