The aim of this study is to examine the difficulties encountered by individuals learning Turkish as a foreign language in the reading skill. In line with this aim, qualitative data were collected through interviews conducted with 26 students at different proficiency levels who were continuing their Turkish language education at Fırat University TÖMER. To identify the difficulties experienced in reading, the participants were asked the question, “What difficulties do you encounter while reading Turkish texts?” Based on the students’ responses, sub-themes were created in order to clearly and systematically determine the problems encountered, and statistical data related to these themes were presented. The findings indicate that students experience the greatest difficulties primarily due to word and suffix length, pronunciation issues, and insufficient vocabulary knowledge.
