This article analyzes the role and significance of the concept of retronym within the framework of the linguistic theory of nomination. The study examines lexical changes arising under the influence of technological innovations and social transformations, with particular attention to the processes of renaming already existing concepts. The article highlights the terminological ambiguities related to the absence of a clearly established status of the notion of retronym in Uzbek linguistics and proposes scholarly solutions aimed at resolving these issues
