Abstract

This article analyzes the process of the formation of the metalinguistic (metalanguage) concept in Turkology. The main objects of the study is the anonymously authored “At-Tuhfat az-Zakiyya fī al-Lughat at-Turkiyya.” These works are examined not only as lexicographical and grammatical sources but also as early examples of metalanguage — the “language about language” that reflects a systematic and analytical approach to the description of Turkic languages
