Abstract

This article is dedicated to the morphological analysis of euphemisms used in the speech delivered by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly. The relevance of the research lies in the fact that in political discourse, euphemisms are widely used to soften harsh or unpleasant meanings, to present social issues in a milder form, and to legitimize political views and positions before an international audience. Euphemistic units selected from the speech text were studied using linguistic methods, and their formation characteristics in the categories of nouns, verbs, and adjectives were demonstrated. The results of the analysis showed that in Mirziyoyev’s speech, euphemisms served not only as a means to enhance positive connotations but also as a form of diplomatic expression intended for an international audience. Furthermore, the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan’s socio-political life were presented in a softer and more positive manner through euphemisms. The article identifies the linguistic role of euphemisms by revealing their morphological structure and functional load in political discourse. This approach contributes to the development of political linguistics and euphemism studies.
