This article analyzes the anthroponyms in Sadriddin Ayni's story "Death of the Usurer." On the basis of the linguocognitive approach, the internal semantic structure of names, connotative loads, mental representations and stereotypes in the thinking of society are highlighted. Through the semantic discrepancy between the image and the name in the work, that is, through cognitive dissonance, the author's ideological intention and social critical position are revealed.
