Abstract

In Uzbek folklore, negative images that create various obstacles for positive
heroes play an important role. Among the general categories such as jinn, fairy, giant, evil spirits
in the form of women - Qara Umay, Albasti, Sariq Qiz, Mortu, Ajina, Maston and others - occupy
a special place. They have been preserved in folk beliefs and literature for thousands of years. In
this article, we will talk about the role of evil creatures in the life and literature of the Uzbeks. In
addition, we will analyze the motives of their appearance, functional metamorphosis and modern
interpretations on a scientific basis
