Plants and animals are the main elements that shape both the biological and
cultural aspects of human life. In Turkish culture, elements of nature, in particular plants, play an
important role not only in everyday life, but also in the world of symbolic meaning. Throughout
history, the Turkish language has interacted with various languages and has acquired a very rich
vocabulary in terms of plant names. In this context, Uzbek Turkish, which has an important
position among Turkish dialects, is historically the successor of Karakhanid, Khorezm and
Chigatai Turkish, and preserves the traces of these dialects in terms of vocabulary. Although
Uzbek Turkish is mainly composed of Turkic-based words, it has incorporated many words from
languages such as Arabic, Persian and Russian in the historical process. This study examines the
correspondences of plant names in the first dictionary of the Turkish language, “Devoni Lugʻotit-
Turk”, in Uzbek Turkish. The plant names are arranged in alphabetical order using the work
“Dîvânu Lûgati’t-Türk” (Introduction-Text-Translation-Memorization-Index) prepared by Ahmet
Bican Ercilasun and Ziyat Akkoyunlu. The forms in the Karakhanid, Khorezm, Chigatai and Uzbek
Turkish stages are compared. The study aims to show the continuity of the naming of plants in the
history of the Turkish language.
