This article analyzes folk idiomatic expressions used in the speech of the
Toyloq district population of Samarkand region from dialectological and phraseological
perspectives. The study presents dialectal expressions in transcription, alongside their equivalents
in the Uzbek literary language and semantic explanations. The idioms are classified into thematic
groups denoting human character, emotional state, physical appearance, social relations,
hospitality, material condition, speech behavior, and ironic evaluation. Dialectal units such as
“ovuz”, “birovdi”, “muvarak”, “jaqinlasholmaysan”, “jerga”, and “tagʻnay” reflect regional
pronunciation, phonetic variation, and figurative folk thinking. The article also discusses the
linguocultural meaning of these expressions and substantiates their role in representing local oral
speech and regional cultural identity.
