All over the world, the nature and essence of corruption as a negative social phenomenon is mainly analyzed. In this article, the author defines the content of corruption and its features, as well as its basic principles. Also, special attention is paid to the analysis of observed corruption phenomena. The article provides recommendations aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the fight against corruption and measures aimed at preventing it. According to the author, corruption is the illegal use of official powers by a person in any form. The legal consciousness of corruption is formed as a result of the legal literacy of the population and the low standard of living. In addition, the corruption that exists in our society means the weakness of public organizations. The full implementation of public control when resolving important issues of public and state life should become one of the main state policies in the fight against corruption
