Abstract

This article analyzes the artistic and semantic functions of the water motif in Erkin A’zam’s film novellas Along the Water and Zabarjad. It explores the archetypal meanings of water in folklore and traditional culture and their modern reinterpretation in A’zam’s works. In these texts, water functions not as a mere natural detail but as a central poetic mechanism expressing the characters’ inner world, memory, and moral reflection. While in Along the Water the motif symbolizes the flow of life and a spiritual journey, in Zabarjad it represents traumatic memory and psychological renewal. Thus, the water motif emerges as a key meaninggenerating concept in the poetics of both film novellas
