Abstract

The renowned and famous “Baburnama” is a classical work whose lexicon can serve as a source for every field. Its systematic translations into English perform the function of an empirical tool for linguistics and translation studies. This article analyzes the linguistic units with national-cultural characteristics used in the “Baburnama”, and the problems of their translation. It reveals the translators’ efforts to achieve adequacy in translation process. The translations of the “Baburnama” carried out in different periods by J.Leyden-William Erskine (1826), A.S. Beveridge (1926), and W.Thackston (1996) are analyzed. It is revealed the nationally cultural words are continual problems for translators and the approach of the language owner is of great importance. Furthermore, the uniqueness of the original lexicon leads several translators to serious research.
