Abstract

The article examines the significance of the Orkhon-Yenisei petroglyphs, which have not lost their relevance today and find their place in both scientific and political circles of Turkic-speaking peoples. Although the study of these written monuments began in the 19th century, their value is growing every day. The article provides brief information about the phonetics, vocabulary and grammar of ancient written monuments in comparison with some Turkic languages. It also discusses the disputes about which group of Turkic languages these inscriptions belong to, based on the texts on the monuments.
It should be noted that the greatest merit of our ancestors is that they also played an important role in the formation of the phonological form of writing, which was very valuable for humanity.
This short article also discusses the great steps taken by the ancient Turkic peoples in the historical development of their language, literature, and writing. Along with this, in recent decades, the works of Turkic-speaking scholars B.M. Yunusaliev, N. Orkhun, G. Aidarov, and S. Sydykov have contributed to the study of ancient inscriptions.
