Abstract

This article examines the historical development and evolution of the use of authentic texts in language teaching methodology. It traces the shift from grammar-focused approaches towards communicative methods that prioritize real-world language use. The research explores the theories and contributions of renowned linguists such as Keith Morrow, Henry Widdowson, David Nunan, and Alan Maley regarding authentic materials in language learning. The advantages and challenges of employing authentic resources are analyzed, highlighting their significance in developing learners' communicative competence. Additionally, the article discusses the role of modern technologies, the Internet, and multimedia in enhancing access to authentic materials. Practical recommendations for the effective use of authentic texts in contemporary language education are provided.
