Abstract

This article is devoted to the comparative analysis of idioms in the Uzbek and English languages. The study compares the structural, semantic, and cultural features of idioms in both languages and highlights the main problems encountered in their translation, as well as the types of equivalence applied. It also examines the role of idioms in expressing national color and their importance in intercultural communication. The findings of the research show that idioms in Uzbek and English serve as significant linguistic units reflecting the people’s worldview, lifestyle, and historical experience. It is emphasized that, in translating idioms, a semantic and functional equivalence-based approach is more effective than a literal one
