Abstract

This article is devoted to a comparative semantic analysis of the English prepositions ‘over” and “above” and their Tajik equivalents. The study examines the similarities and differences in meanings, functions, and usage contexts of these prepositions in both languages. Particular attention is paid to nuances of translation, spatial and figurative meanings, as well as the grammatical constructions in which these prepositions occur. The analysis is based on examples from contemporary English and Tajik, which makes it possible to identify both universal semantic features and language-specific characteristics determined by the typology of each language. The results of the study may be useful for linguists, translators, as well as teachers and learners of English and Tajik.
