Abstract

This article examines the problem of orphanhood in Tohir Malik’s novella
Murdalar gapirmaydilar as not only a psychological consequence of parental loss but also a
manifestation of moral degradation in society. The study interprets the fate of orphaned children
as a reflection of individuals who become victims of social injustice, spiritual decline, and criminal
influences. The novella, recognized as a notable detective work in Uzbek literature, addresses
pressing social issues such as human trafficking, exploitation of vulnerable women and children,
greed, lust, and the pursuit of material wealth. Through its characters and events, the work reveals
how moral corruption, selfishness, and the erosion of ethical values lead individuals toward crime,
humiliation, and destruction. The article argues that the social and moral problems depicted in
the novella remain relevant across different historical periods
