In this thesis, the features of the expression of cognitive metonymy in the work of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur “Baburnama” are analyzed. The study reveals the connection of metonymy with human thinking, experience, and conceptual system based on the cognitive linguistic approach. Metonymic units arising from historical events, personalities, place names, and socio-vital images in the work are identified, and their cognitive functions are highlighted. Metonymic models such as “part-whole,” “cause-effect,” “authorwork,” “place-event” are analyzed based on examples. The research results serve a deeper understanding of the artistic-aesthetic and cognitive possibilities of the language of “Baburnama,” as well as the study of the phenomenon of metonymy in the Uzbek literary language from a cognitive point of view
